Toxicity and clutter come in all shapes and sizes. Old habits, outdated skincare, lifestyle choices, and/or friends can cause just as much damage as a cluttered closet or moldy basement. It feels good to let go of the things in our lives that no longer serve us purpose. This Season, I’m looking at spring cleaning as an opportunity to lighten and simplify all areas in my life. Why not start how to simplify our beauty routine? Below you'll find my 10 tips to spring clean your skincare:

Tip #1 - Check your expiration dates
Old, outdated products can harbor bacteria and lose their effectiveness. Toss out all expired skincare and makeup to prevent irritation and breakouts.

Tip #2 - Add a mask to your routine
Purify, hydrate, firm & brighten with my favorite Charcoal Mask by Crane & Carbon! This creamy detox mask is packed with activated charcoal & antioxidants to absorb toxins, draw impurities, and hydrate your skin. The swoon-worthy-scent of lavender and eucalyptus will help calm your senses. making this the perfect at-home holistic treatment.

Tip #3 - Wash Your Pillow Case(s) -
When your pillowcase isn’t changed regularly, a build-up of dirt, oil, and dead skin cells can be transferred from your pillow back to your skin. This can clog pores and cause blemishes. I recommend washing your sheets & pillow cases weekly. If you suffer from acne try switching your pillow case 2-3x week. Always keep two or more sets of sheets to make it easier to switch during laundry days.

Tip #4 - Don’t double dip
Whether it’s your chips and dip, the wax at your favorite salon, or your products at home, just say no to double dipping! If your current skincare is in in a tub use a spatula instead of your fingers to remove the product. This will help unwanted bacteria from harboring and keep the integrity of the product. Always store your skincare in a cool, dry place. Steam/water can also change the consistency so if your cleanser is in the shower, make sure to keep it away from the stream & keep the lid closed.

Tip #5 - Breathe
Reduced stress equals better skin. Studies show meditation benefits those suffering from psoriasis, eczema, and acne. Mindful breathing just a few minutes a day can increase oxygen, rejuvenate your skin, balance your body, and repair cells.

Tip #6 - Exfoliate
Winter can leave your skin dry & dull. Try using an enzyme or gentle exfoliant 2x a week to replenish, brighten, & renew your skin. Avoid harsh exfoliants like apricot scrub, this can tear the skin and leave it extra sensitive.

Tip #7 - Check your ingredients
Become an informed consumer and get in the habit of scanning ingredient lists before you buy. Avoid products containing synthetic fragrances, sulfates, and mineral oil. If the product you use causes sensitivity, it can leave your skin vulnerable to environmental damage and can delay its ability to renew and restore itself. Choose nontoxic beauty from educated professionals because what you put in and on your body matters!

Tip #8 - Stay Hydrated
Hydrate your body with more water, fruits, and veggies but don’t forget to keep the surface of your skin hydrated too! Use serums, oils, and masks that are specifically designed for your skin type. My current fave is our Crane & Carbon primrose mask. This mask will intensely moisturize your skin with nourishing fatty acids, heal irritation and protect from inflammation and oxidation. Pair with a topo for a total Wandering-Wanda's-at-home-treatment. :)

Tip #9 - Get a facial
Skin cells have a lifespan of 28 days and facials are key in skin cell renewal. Benefits of a facial include: clear clogged pores, quench dry skin, remove dead cells, lymphatic drainage, oxygenate skin, reduced puffiness, reduced environmental factors, calm inflammation/irritation and reduce stress. As the weather changes, you will certainly reap the benefits of a facial. At Wandering Wanda's every service is different because every person is different.

Tip #10 Clean your makeup brushes
Much like your pillow cases, makeup brushes harbor bacteria that could lead to irritation, breakouts and even viral infections! I recommend cleansing your brushes weekly with soap and warm water. I leave mine on the counter overnight to air-dry and have ready for my morning routine.
That wraps up my 10 tips to spring clean your skincare. Thanks for stopping by! I look forward to seeing you at the sanctuary soon.
